The Santa Fe New Mexican is looking for a full-time visual journalist who wants to tell stories across our delivery systems.We are looking for a motivated and creative photographer/videographer who knows that getting to an assignment early and staying late can lead to better visuals. Successful applicants will have at least two years of photography and video experience at a newspaper or equivalent online publication. You need to have a well-organized portfolio that shows the breadth of your experience including general news, videos, portraits, features, sports and picture stories.In addition, a successful applicant needs to be proficient with Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing software and have strong verbal and writing skills. A valid driver's license and reliable car is also required. This is an in-person job with some night and weekend work. With a veteran staff of three visual journalists, The New Mexican has the bandwidth to allow journalists time to work on daily assignments, projects, slide shows and videos. In return we expect not only technical proficiency but visuals with impact and emotion. Our photographers are an integral part of the news team, generating story ideas and helping to shape content through news gathering, developing contacts and working on long term projects. Spanish language skills are preferred.This position also has opportunities to contribute to projects done by Searchlight New Mexico, an independent investigative news initiative that is coming under The New Mexican’s operational oversight.The New Mexican is a locally owned and independent newspaper that punches above its weight class.
